The Gingrich Foundation is pleased to announce the Davis Direction Foundation as its Charity of the Month for April.
Opioid and heroin addiction is one of the most pressing issues facing our nation today. About 690,000 Americans were reported to have used heroin in 2012 according to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) and that number has only grown since. Use of opioids and heroin is markedly elevated among young adults, and the severity of addiction caused by even minimal use of these substances illustrates the importance of smart and comprehensive action against this problem.
The opioid crisis is an epidemic that continues to take the lives of young adults every day, and the Davis Direction Foundation works tirelessly to raise awareness, serve as a community role model, and build a more promising future for those most at risk.
Among the most inspiring work of the Davis Direction Foundation is its commitment to ensuring long-term recovery for people addicted to heroin and opioids through an extension known as The Zone. The Zone is a pioneering Recovery Community Organization (RCO) that is overseen and led by people in recovery, family members, friends, and allies. Through this community, extensive resources both within and outside of the community are assembled so that long-term recovery is prioritized.
The Davis Direction Foundation believes that the stigma surrounding heroin and opioid rehabilitation is not only outdated but also misguided. Through community building, collective action, and wholehearted dedication, the Davis Direction Foundation is a shining example of a truly great organization working for meaningful change.
Addiction is an issue that transcends all demographics, but together we can all help to influence impactful, genuine, and lasting change to fight this dreadful epidemic.
Please join the Gingrich Foundation in supporting the Davis Direction Foundation today.
