The Stakes of the Georgia Runoffs

All eyes have been on Georgia the past few weeks as the state prepares for its double runoff election on Jan. 5 to decide who will represent the state in the US Senate. The results of the runoff will affect much more than Georgia though, as the power that comes with a party majority hangs in the balance as well. 

If Mitch McConnell (R-KY) hopes to continue to lead the Republican party and keep a Biden administration in check, he will need a huge turnout of Republican voters in Georgia. In fact, President Trump himself has been active in recruiting supporters for Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler. There’s no denying that President Trump can draw a crowd, and his help will be vital in keeping “the last line of defense” against Biden and the Democrats. Current polls are showing the Republicans ahead, but some are still worried about potential election fraud. Voter turnout numbers are up in the air as well, making these final two US Senate seats worth fighting for on both sides.
