What Newt’s Reading Mr. Biden is likely to continue speaking a lot of pretty words in coming months. What matters are his actions. -Newt Joe Biden’s Inaugural Purge By Kimberley A. Strassel Wall Street Journal President Joe Biden’s actions contradict his message of national unity and restoring normalcy in Washington, DC. Within minutes of being sworn in, Biden’s White House instructed Peter Robb, general counsel of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), to resign that day or be fired. Robb was a Senate-confirmed appointee who had ten months left in his term, but the Biden administration still dismissed him. The media constantly portrayed Donald Trump as a divider who destroyed norms while he was in office, but he permitted Richard Griffin, Barack Obama’s NLRB general counsel, to serve out his term until 2017. In the past, Obama attempted to bypass Senate confirmation for the NLRB by naming three recess appointees to the agency even though the Senate was in session. In 2014, the Supreme Court declared that all those appointments were void. When the nation discovers the grip that unions have on the Democratic Party, the disillusionment with the Biden administration will grow. Tom Cotton Fox News The Senate should reject Xavier Becerra’s nomination to the post of secretary of health and human Services because he is a radical culture warrior. Instead of nominating a doctor during a pandemic, President Biden nominated a lawyer by profession who has served as attorney general in California. Becerra also supports the radical views of the Democratic Party, endorsing Bernie Sanders’s Medicare-for-all proposal, open borders, and partial birth abortion. Becerra has also prosecuted pro-life activists for releasing footage of Planned Parenthood executives discussing the sale of aborted baby parts. The Department of Health and Human Services has a large bureaucracy, and there is little doubt that Becerra would use it to enact his radical agenda. In a pandemic, America deserves a serious professional at HHS and not a partisan culture warrior. Some believed Antifa would fade away after Biden’s electoral win. They’re wrong. -Newt Biden Won’t Stop Them, and Neither Will Cops, Until Portland Is Burned Down By Andy Ngo New York Post As the nation’s capital was swarmed by thousands of National Guard troops and police for President Biden’s inauguration, the right-wing violence they were expecting did not materialize. However, in Portland, Antifa rioters stormed the headquarters of the Democratic Party of Oregon using hammers and metal batons, smashing windows, and setting the place on fire. The police only made eight arrests and confiscated some of their weaponry. Similarly, in Seattle, Antifa militants shut down traffic downtown as they trashed roads and started street fires while attacking a federal courthouse. The planned political violence should have made the front page, but since the rioters espoused the right political ideology, they were conveniently ignored by the media. Some thought Antifa riots would end after Biden took office, but it is clear they are just getting started. Ahead of his nomination for labor secretary, Marty Walsh started pouring campaign money into a DC consulting firm founded by President Joe Biden's top adviser. -Newt Labor Pick Paid Biden-Linked Firm Tens of Thousands Prior to Nomination By Collin Anderson and Matthew Foldi Washington Free Beacon Months prior to his nomination to lead the Department of Labor, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh funneled campaign funds to a DC consulting firm, SKDKnickerbocker (SKDK), founded by Biden adviser Anita Dunn. Over a period of several months leading up to mid-December, Walsh sent $90,000 to SKDK, with the final payment coming two weeks before Walsh was nominated. This is not a first for SKDK: In August, former California Secretary of State Alex Padilla awarded the firm a $35 million no-bid contract against the objections of the state’s chief financial officer. In response to the latest news about Walsh, an SKDK spokesperson reiterated that Dunn did not work on Walsh’s reelection campaign even as the firm provided his campaign with strategic support. Walsh attended Biden’s inauguration with the Massachusetts House delegation. His confirmation hearing has not been scheduled yet. Kim Jong Un recently called the United States his country’s “biggest enemy.” President Joe Biden must not try to implement the unsuccessful “strategic patience” doctrine adopted by the Obama administration. -Newt North Korea’s Kim Could Be Planning Missile Launch To Welcome Biden Administration By Simon Denyer and Joby Warrick Washington Post While the media has been focused on the 2020 election and its aftermath for the past few months, North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un has been busy building up his country’s military power. At a military parade in Pyongyang, Kim unveiled a new missile that could be launched from a submarine. North Korean state media referred to this warhead as the world’s most powerful weapon. In short, it appears North Korea isn’t becoming any less hostile or belligerent. In fact, Kim may be preparing for a missile launch. Biden will likely continue the Obama administration’s doctrine of “strategic patience,” hoping that tightening the economic noose around North Korea compels Pyongyang to stay idle. But Kim has shown no willingness to back down and halt North Korea’s nuclear program. Most significantly, Kim seems to be signaling that he would require major concessions from the US in order to comply with the Biden’s administration’s diplomatic plans.
