Newt Gingrich Audio Update: My Thoughts on Georgia and Our Current Chaos

I want to take a minute to share with you the chaos we’re seeing. As I had feared, the Republicans lost the two US Senate seats in Georgia. Frankly, everything we said about how important it was is true. We’re now going to see a Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Kamala Harris and Joe Biden all working together. And they’re going to move well to the left.

I’m frustrated by the whole thing. I think it was avoidable. I think we could have won both seats, and I’m concerned about the decay and the quality of our campaign consultants. At the same time, I think Republicans have a wake-up call that we better really think about all the things that went wrong.

I want to take just a minute to share with you the chaos we’re in the middle of as I had feared, the Republicans lost the two US Senate seats in Georgia, and frankly, everything we said about how important it was is true. We’re now going to see a majority leader, Chuck Schumer, working with speaker Nancy Pelosi and with Kamala Harris and Joe Biden. And they’re going to move well to the left. Something we’ve already seen with the house vote, for example, to abolish father and mother as part of their language. At the same time, I think Republicans have a wake-up call that we have better really think about all the things that went wrong. But I have to tell you it was a very challenging situation.

I’m very frustrated by the whole thing. I think it was totally avoidable. I think we could have won both seats and I’m very concerned about the decay and the quality of our campaign consultants and the way in which we try to substitute money for thinking. Let me also say that we are now of course in the middle of the effort in Congress which I have supported to insist on getting 10 days to look carefully at what actually happened in the various elections. I think the country deserves this kind of openness. They could all be done in 10 days and still have time to have the inauguration on the 20th. And I just think that it is wrong to cover it up to not let us look at it, but I’ll be talking more about that tomorrow once we’ve seen how this is evolving, but I did want to share with you my concern about what happened in Georgia, my belief that it really is profound, that it will have a big effect. Now it’s also true that Rafael Warnock has a seat is only last for two years. So there’s a pretty fair chance. We’ll beat him in two years as it’s obvious how radically is, but we’ll keep looking at that and we’ll keep reporting to you.
