Watching the left go all out to try to drive conservatives out of the public square, the listing people setting up algorithms that are anti-conservative and doing a variety of other things. I was really struck, Janice Dean had tweeted out a quote from Harry Truman that I thought was remarkably relevant to where we are right now. President Truman said “once a government is committed to silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go. And that is down the path of repressive measures until it becomes a source of terror, toilets, citizens creating a country where everyone lives in fear.” Now this was President Truman who had seen the rise of Mussolini, the rise of Lenin and Stalin and communist Russia, the rise of Hitler and Nazi Germany, the rise of Mao in China. He knew what he was talking about.

And I think I want repeating again because I think it fits exactly the threat that whether without meaning to that, the a hard left is doing committing in both its domination of the media. It’s a domination of academia and its domination, now of the internet companies Truman said, “once a government is committed to silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go. And that is down the path of repressive measures until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens, creating a country where everyone lives in fear.” What hit me is that if in fact the internet left-wing giants and the news media succeeded in driving conservatives out of the public square, what they will lead to is what in the Soviet era was called a Samizdat. Samizdat was the secret underground publications Solzhenitsyn is the most famous with One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. And then later after he fled the Soviet union, all series of amazing novels, but the Samizdat were people who found ways using Xerox machines, using old fashioned mimeograph machines sometimes just typing with multiple carbon copies. They found a way to, to circulate information despite the best efforts of the Soviet state. So I think you may see presently the conservative equivalent of a, an American Samizdat. And I think it’s just, it’s worth thinking about.
