California Democrats can’t seem to understand why television carriers continue to host prominent cable news networks such as Fox, OANN, and Newsmax.
In a letter sent to service providers including Verizon, Comcast, AT&T, and Roku earlier this week, Reps. Anna Eshoo and Jerry McNerney of California questioned whether they will “continue carrying Fox News, Newsmax, and OANN,” the Washington Examiner reports.
Referring to the news networks at “rumor mills” and “conspiracy theory hotbeds,” the representatives expressed their concern over the harm done thanks to their coverage, undoubtably in reference the Jan. 6 US Capitol riot.
“Right-wing media outlets, like Newsmax, One America News Network (OANN), and Fox News all aired misinformation about the November 2020 elections,” they wrote. “These same networks also have been key vectors of spreading misinformation related to the pandemic.”
According to the Washington Examiner, the letter was also sent to Apple, Amazon, Charter, DISH, Hulu, and Alphabet, though House Democrats won’t stop there.
A Wednesday hearing by the House Energy and Commerce telecom subcommittee plans to investigate the role of Fox and other networks in the Capitol riot and during the coronavirus pandemic, specifically in relationship to purported disinformation.
Brenden Carr, a Republican commissioner at the Federal Communications Commissions shared his concern at these actions, saying, ““Democrats are sending a message that is as clear as it is troubling — these regulated entities will pay a price if the targeted newsrooms do not conform to Democrats’ preferred political narratives.”
Cancelling Fox News has long been a pipe dream of far-left Democrats, and recent events have given them an excuse to exert congressional pressure. Thankfully, Republicans have been preparing for these actions for some time and seem keen to the trick.
