Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been outspoken about easing COVID-19 restrictions since last year to the shock and anger of many. What these naysayers don’t seem to realize, however, is the success of DeSantis’s measures.
Florida currently has a lower unemployment rate than the national average, lower per-capita COVID-19 mortality than many states under lockdown and has vaccinated the most Americans that are 65 or older. In going against the norm, Gov. DeSantis made the right decision by reopening the state quickly and was able to avoid the frustration many are feeling in New York or California.
The media hopes to make DeSantis appear as a villain when his success should be recognized by other state leaders. His self-proclaimed “oasis of freedom” is indeed living up its name as Americans hope for a return to normalcy soon.
