Charity of the Month: Thomas Jefferson Foundation

The Gingrich Foundation

The Gingrich Foundation is pleased to recognize the Thomas Jefferson Foundation as its July Charity of the Month.

The legacy of Thomas Jefferson survives today in our nation’s founding document, the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson’s personal legacy, however, is preserved at Monticello, his estate in Charlottesville, Virginia, which is faithfully maintained by the Thomas Jefferson Foundation.

Established in 1923, the Thomas Jefferson Foundation manages and operates this UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Historic Landmark without any federal or state funding. Instead, it relies on the generosity of private donors.

The Thomas Jefferson Foundation is committed to educating the public about the ideas to which Jefferson devoted his life. Visitors to Monticello have the opportunity to learn about these ideas at his home and education center (which has more than 500,000 visitors each year).

For those who can’t make the journey to Charlottesville, the Thomas Jefferson Foundation also provides online resources which allow them to better understand Jefferson and his many interests.

For 98 years, the Thomas Jefferson Foundation has worked to acquire and restore Jefferson’s property. In addition to the architectural restoration of Monticello and its gardens, the Thomas Jefferson Foundation has procured many of its original furnishings, including some of Jefferson’s own inventions.

Today, the property spans nearly 2,500 acres, including Montalto, the neighboring mountain which was purchased in 2004.

Please join the Gingrich Foundation in supporting the Thomas Jefferson Foundation. Your generosity will help visitors to Monticello discover and appreciate the incredible life of Thomas Jefferson.
