On Saturday evening, Operation Breaking Dawn continued against Palestinian Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip as more than 350 rockets were launched toward Israel in the first full day of fighting between the two groups.
The Iron Dome missile defense system proved to be effective and had a reported interception rate of about 95 percent of rockets launched against Israel. Sirens were activated in the central Israeli cities of Rishon Lezion, Holon, and Bat Yam but it was later reported the sirens were a false alarm.
Due to the violence, the Home Front Command announced restrictions on Friday afternoon for residents of Gaza, with schools being closed and gatherings being limited.
