Over the past weekend, Sen. Ted Cruz criticized President Joe Biden’s plan to make the IRS larger than the FBI and State Department, hiring 87,000 new tax-enforcement agents. Sen. Cruz said on Twitter, “My amendment would have struck the funding for 87,000 new IRS agents.” He went on to say, “But Democrats want to target the American people, and their small businesses with more audits. These agents are not going to go after billionaires.”

The new IRS agents will be targeting the middle class, not the wealthy, Sen. Cruz said in a separate statement.
