The Coronavirus’s Boost for Military Enrollment

The lack of jobs and woes of online learning have certainly been a lowlight for many around the world since the start of the pandemic. To avoid these troubles, however, a number of young adults have decided to serve in their country’s military. 

From Canada to Australia, military enrollment has seen a sharp increase since the latter half of 2020 through now. South Korea, for example, already has a mandatory 18-month military service for young men. Yet, the country has seen an enormous 44 percent increase in applications from those who wish to go ahead and fulfill the requirement while the job market is down 

Around the world, some are even extending their service times until COVID-19 becomes less of a problem. Almost every role has seen growth as well, including cooks, engineers, and manual laborers. As one South Korean student so aptly put it, “You have to go anyway, might as well go now.”
