For most elections, it’s hard to cut a line of blue through most the heartland of America. It is commonly known that most of rural America is Republican stronghold, while metropolitan areas tend to vote Democrat. It does not take much to realize the political gap between America’s farmland and cities.
Of the top 20 wealthiest districts in the US, 19 are represented by Democrats. This has led to a clear detachment between Democrats and the blue-collar workforce that spans across most of middle America. One Democratic Congresswoman from Ohio fears that her party is increasingly dominated by members representing affluent districts. Rep. Marcy Kaptur from Toledo — the longest serving woman in Congress — is an anomaly in the Democrat party of today. She represents a largely working-class district in rust belt America compared to the drastically different, large liberal cities of many other Democrat districts. Kaptur has said that many of her top-ranking colleagues do not understand her part of the country. Well, that tracks. It’s hard to understand something that you have never taken the time to try to understand.
As the Democrat Party continues to cater to the most elite, do not worry rural America, the Republican Party will continue to fight for the forgotten working class.
