U.S. lawmakers are troubled over the U.S. military’s deflated recruitment numbers. The U.S. has reportedly achieved only 85 percent of its recruitment goals for 2022. The U.S. Marines, Space Force, and Air Force have reached their goals, but the Navy is at 89 percent, and the U.S. Army is at just 66 percent.
The main reasons for low recruitment rates are recruiters being unable to meet in person with potential recruits and high levels of obesity in America youths. The U.S. Army cut roughly 60,000 National Guard and Reserves members from pay and benefits for refusing COVID-19 vaccines.
U.S. Rep. Mike Gallagher said, “We are on the cusp of a military recruiting crisis… When Republicans take control of Congress in a few months, averting the recruiting crisis will be a top priority.”
